The mission of the California Psychology Internship Council is to promote excellence in professional psychology training and mental health services.
We do this by:
Working collaboratively with all the stakeholders and professional psychology organizations in furthering the quality of professional psychology training.
Serving as a leader in centralizing predoctoral internship training.
Promoting standards and innovation in professional psychology training to provide clinical services to the state's diverse communities.
Collaborating and advocating for access to training stipends for psychology interns and training resources for agencies.
Developing ethical internship training environments that are sensitive to issues of diversity and culture.
CAPIC is a California Public Benefit Corporation.
Founded in September 1991, the California Psychology Internship Council (CAPIC) was incorporated as a non-profit charitable and education organization in 1993. Among its many functions, CAPIC:
Implements policies, procedures, and timetables that improve the application / selection process for students, agencies, and doctoral programs of professional psychology
Facilitates a post-notification day internship clearinghouse
Standardizes application, contract, evaluation, site visit, and other forms used by agencies and doctoral programs
Publishes predoctoral and postdoctoral training directories
Promotes multicultural training
Has developed a regionally and nationally recognized half-time training model
Facilitates a forum for sharing information between members of the psychology training community
Provides news to the internship training community relevant to professional psychology training issues in California
Develops resources to improve or create training programs
Facilitates internship quality assurance processes including annual review, site visits, and committee review
Maintains liaisons with other organizations concerned with internship training
Advocates for public awareness of the social and economic benefits of students' service and training programs
CAPIC's activities are supported by graduate program and internship program members' dues, service / training program contracts, and proceeds from the sale of pre- and postdoctoral directories.
