CAPIC Board of Directors

Melodie Schaefer, Psy.D.
Dr. Schaefer currently serves as the Chair of the CAPIC Board of Directors, and has held the positions of Vice-Chairperson and Board Member since 2003.
Dr. Schaefer is the Executive Director of the Addictions Institute as well as the Office of Professional Training Ph.D. Advisor/Liaison at California School of Professional Psychology/Alliant International University – Los Angeles. She previously held the position of Director of Counseling Centers and the Office of Applied Professional Practice at The Chicago School of Southern California. Prior to that, she held the position of Coordinator of the Mental Health and Psychology Doctoral Training Program as well as the Outpatient Mental Health Program, the latter two of which she developed at Tarzana Treatment Centers.
In addition, Dr. Schaefer is Co-Director/Founder of Associates in Clinical Therapy, a private psychotherapy service agency. She is a current Board member of both the Division on Training and Education of the CPA, and the Southern California Association of Psychology Training Programs.
Over the last 30 years, she has held various academic, training, research, clinical and board positions. Dr. Schaefer’s publications and lectures/presentations focus primarily on the treatment of addiction and trauma.
