Kell Fujimoto, PhD
Dr. Kell Fujimoto graduated with his doctorate of psychology degree in 2001 from the American School of Professional Psychology – Honolulu Campus. He completed his predoctoral internship at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and postdoctoral residency at San José State University (SJSU). Dr. Fujimoto was hired as a faculty counselor by SJSU in January 2002 and was promoted to associate professor status and tenured in 2008.
Dr. Fujimoto was appointed to the position of Training Coordinator in spring 2005. During his tenure as Training Coordinator, Counseling Services has had several successful years of training with practicum students, predoctoral interns, and postdoctoral residents. Under his leadership, Counseling Services obtained permanent funding for two postdoctoral resident positions and stipend funding for at least two years for four predoctoral interns. In addition, the Training Program under his direction, implemented seminars addressing diversity awareness and social justice issues in the profession, as well as an annual day long “Multicultural Training Day” conference held each fall for Bay Area trainees and training directors.
Currently, Dr. Fujimoto is working on Counseling Services’ self-study for APA accreditation. His clinical specialties include working with students with Asperger Disorder, Asian Pacific Islander issues, the training of graduate students, group therapy, and technology application to college counseling.
